Principal & Creative Director

Scott started out as the type of guy you remember in school who sat in the back of class always drawing pictures (and really annoying his teacher). His goal was to be able to draw accurately what he had envisioned in his mind on paper. He achieved this objective at age 15 and was well known in his small hometown for his illustration skills.

This passion for art later transitioned into graphic design as he took a job at the young age of 16 as an apprentice designer and paste and layout artist for his hometown newspaper. During this period Scott was exposed to traditional design and production practices working with X-acto knives, wax machines, and PMT cameras (several T-Shirts gave their life for this education). Scott would later wear the title of designer several more times in these early years. After returning from a 2-year mission for his Church he turned his complete attention to getting a formal education in design and earned a bachelors degree in graphic design from Arizona State University. Scott graduated as the ‘Outstanding Senior in Design.’

Between his junior and senior years at ASU he earned an intern position with the prestigious design firm, Landor Associates, in San Francisco, California working in their corporate identity studio. Upon graduation he was offered a full-time position with the firm and worked under the tutelage of Margaret Youngblood, Linden Leader, Courtney Reeser, Bill Chiaravalle and many other respected designers. Scott was exposed to many fortune 500 companies and was privileged to work with such clients as FedEx, Microsoft, Frito-Lay, Weyerhaeuser, Warner Brothers, Gatorade, and many others. Scott would spend time in both their San Francisco and Seattle studios.

Scott and his wife, both Arizona natives, made their way back home to Arizona to work for Esser Design as a senior designer. At Esser Design, Scott worked with such clients as PING, FFCA, Thunderbird College, and many other local and national clients. Scott started the The Brand Navigator in the spring of 2000. His background and experience has benefited many clients both regionally and nationally.

Scott is a multidisciplinary designer with experience in all areas of design. While running the Brand Navigator Scott has also served as Senior Creative Director at the ASU Foundation for a New American University primarily tasked with the implementation of the New American University brand. This was a huge undertaking and a multi-year assignment including rolling out the brand through the entirety of the university system, establishing and writing brand standards and policing brand integration throughout the various colleges and organizations contained within the ASU system. As a result of this relationship with ASU Scott continues to maintain an association as an instructor in the ASU Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts.

Scott continues to work with clients large, small and about everything in between. He has managed large comprehensive brand programs to the smallest of logo assignments. Helping his clients leverage the power of sound brand strategy in custom tailoring proper perception, engendering customer loyalty and ultimate enhancement of increased sales and marketing brings him tremendous satisfaction. Helping small to medium size businesses achieve success through sound brand strategy coupled with award winning design is something that never gets old.
